Discover how he captivated audiences as a snake charmer from Borneo and portrayed characters such as a Zulu warrior and a cannibal from Australia. His performances were a product of a bygone era, now often referred to as a human zoo, reflecting the colonial and imperial ideologies that shaped his time. Despite the odds against him, John Hood crafted a career defined by exoticism and racism. How did he achieve this? 🎤 Johanna Berg, project manager at the Museum of World Culture, will share insights from her biography of this entertainment entrepreneur and her extensive research into Afro-Swedish history, including her book *Afrosvenskar: Femton berättelser ur historien*. ### 🕒 14:00 - 14:45: The Treasures of Benin with Michael Barrett Delve into the rich culture of Benin with Michael Barrett, Africa curator at the Museum of World Culture. He will discuss the collection's history, as well as the vibrant traditions, art, mythology, religion, and history of Benin. In November 2023, the Museum of World Culture received the Swedish government's permission to return 39 stolen artworks to Nigeria, previously plundered by British soldiers during their invasion of Benin City in 1897. ### 🎥 15:00 - 16:10: Film Screening - Dahomey Be sure to stay for the screening of the Guldbjörnvinnande documentary *Dahomey* by Mati Diop.
